The Forum of Zamfara State Tertiary Institutions (FOZASTI) has given the Zamfara State Government a two-week ultimatum to address outstanding demands by workers in the state's tertiary institutions, warning it may commence industrial action if the issues remain unresolved at the expiration of the deadline.
In a statement issued in Gusau and signed by its Chairman, Yusuf Magaji Mada, FOZASTI said the decision followed deliberations and consultations over persistent issues affecting workers and the smooth operation of tertiary institutions in the state.
The forum listed several unresolved demands, including the implementation of CONPCASS and CONTEDISS salary scales for relevant categories of staff, as well as the payment and implementation of the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA) and Earned Academic Allowance (EAA) for eligible academic staff. It also demanded the implementation of staff promotions across all eligible grade levels and the resolution of outstanding promotion-related matters.
FOZASTI described the demands as critical to staff welfare, motivation and professional development, and to the effective functioning of tertiary institutions across the state. The forum urged the government to use the two-week window to engage its leadership meaningfully and take concrete steps towards resolving the issues.
The forum, however, said it remained committed to dialogue and peaceful engagement, stressing that the ultimatum was intended to give the government a final opportunity to address the concerns. It called on workers to remain calm and united, and directed chapter chairmen to communicate the resolution to their members and maintain discipline throughout the period.
