Rwanda Energy Group Women Basketball Club won the FIBA Women’s Basketball League Africa Zone 5 title by defeating APR Women BBC 84-77 in an all-Rwandan final on Saturday at the Filbert Bayi Olympafrica Centre in Kibaha, Tanzania.
REG moved clear of APR with a 23-9 second quarter, establishing a commanding advantage that the champions maintained despite APR’s second-half comeback. The two clubs had progressed through the group and knockout stages without losing a match before meeting in the final.
REG’s pressure disrupted APR’s offence, forced turnovers and produced nine steals to APR’s two. The Rwandan champions also scored 20 fast-break points and dominated the offensive glass with 11 rebounds. APR responded by recording 20 assists, compared with 12 for REG, and shooting 49 per cent from the field against REG’s 47 per cent, but REG’s 80.8 per cent free-throw shooting helped secure the victory.
APR scored 42 points in the paint to REG’s 40, yet the defensive pressure and decisive execution made the difference. Both clubs have qualified for the final round of the 2026 FIBA WBLA, scheduled for 11-20 December in Cairo, Egypt.
