The Uganda Basketball Players Association (UBPA) will stage its inaugural All-Star basketball tournament at the Lugogo Indoor Arena on Independence Day, UBPA president Paul Odong McGyver has announced. The event is billed as a high-energy showcase blending competitive basketball with music, showbiz and fan activities.
Action on the day will feature select squads from Division One (men and women), Division Two teams, and a special legends game for former women players. Fixtures include the All-Star Legends Men's clash between Team Sudi and Team Afidra, the Legends Women's game between Team Olivia and Team Siima, and the main event, an NBL showdown between Internationals and Locals.
Entry has been set at 10,000 shillings, with VIP tickets at 30,000 shillings. Odong said the association was created to give players a unified voice on grievances, insurance and arbitration, and to attract sponsors and partnerships that raise the profile of Ugandan basketballers. He noted that many local players operate on verbal agreements, creating disputes that the UBPA aims to address.
