The President of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Isaiah Benjamin, has declared that Igoche Mark, founder of the Mark D' Ball Basketball Championship, deserves to lead basketball in Nigeria given his track record in developing the sport. Benjamin spoke on Friday in Abuja during a courtesy visit by SWAN's National Executive Committee to Mark, who is aspiring to the presidency of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF).
Benjamin described Mark's achievements as indisputable, citing the investments he has made in basketball over the years. "We are also aware that you are aspiring for the NBBF Presidency. However, for your efforts and contributions to basketball, you deserve it. We don't do endorsements, but we tell people those who are fit for leadership," he said. The SWAN president urged basketball stakeholders to shun sentiments and elect leaders with proven records.
Mark thanked SWAN's leadership for the visit and urged members to remain objective, reporting the truth and offering constructive criticism. He called for a stronger partnership between SWAN and the Mark D' Ball initiative and assured the association it would be involved in forthcoming programmes. SWAN Secretary-General Ikenna Okonkwo also commended the championship for contributing significantly to the growth of basketball in Nigeria.
