South Sudan's Ministry of Youth and Sports, together with the National Olympic Committee, will hold a public celebration on Thursday 3 September 2026 at Nimira Talata Basketball Stadium in Juba to honour the Bright Stars. The event, scheduled for 3:00 PM, recognises the players, coaches and supporters behind the national basketball team's recent success in Tunisia.
The Bright Stars defeated Guinea, Nigeria and host nation Tunisia to record three successive wins at the FIBA World Cup qualifiers in Tunisia last week. The results moved South Sudan, ranked number one in Africa and 24th globally, closer to the 2027 FIBA World Cup.
The ministry has invited government officials, supporters, media and members of the public to attend the celebration, which it said would also showcase the growing passion for basketball in the country.
