Senegal will host the Africa men's wheelchair basketball Cup in Dakar from 19 to 29 August 2027. The tournament will serve as the sole qualifier for the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games.
The announcement comes after Senegal's Lions finished third at the 2026 AfroParabasket held in Luanda. They reached the semi-finals, where they lost 55-47 to Morocco, before beating Algeria 51-48 in the third-place match alongside Saliou Diène.
Their path to the semi-finals had included a win over Egypt in the group stage of the African Championship. Morocco has become a recurring opponent for the Lions, and the Angola meeting was played against a backdrop of strained sporting relations between Senegalese and Moroccan fans, months after incidents at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in football that led to CAF sanctions and the imprisonment of 18 Senegalese supporters in Morocco.
In Dakar next August, the Lions will have a major sporting objective on home soil: securing a ticket to Los Angeles, having been halted by Morocco in the Luanda semi-finals.
