FIBA has announced that Rwanda will host the next edition of the FIBA AfroCan, the continental tournament reserved for players competing in African domestic leagues, from July 2 to 11, 2027. Twelve national teams will converge at BK Arena in Kigali, including hosts Rwanda.

The announcement comes on the back of Rwanda's bronze-medal finish at the 2023 edition in Angola, where they defeated DR Congo in the third-place match. Morocco won the title that year, beating Côte d'Ivoire in the final. DR Congo took the inaugural AfroCan in 2019, defeating Kenya in Bamako, Mali.

Morocco, Côte d'Ivoire, Rwanda and DR Congo, the top four finishers from 2023, have secured direct qualification for the 2027 tournament. The event will add to a growing list of high-profile basketball competitions hosted at BK Arena, which opened in 2019 and has previously staged Basketball Africa League and FIBA AfroBasket games.

The AfroCan differs from FIBA AfroBasket in that it is restricted to players from domestic leagues across the continent, offering a platform that is not available at the broader AfroBasket championship.
