Rivers Hoopers were crowned Nigerian Premier Basketball League champions for a seventh time after a 92–90 overtime victory over Maktown Flyers at the Basketball Stadium in Port Harcourt on Tuesday. The win moved the KingsMen level with Kano Pillars for the most titles in league history and secured their place as Nigeria's representatives at the Basketball Africa League.
Maktown Flyers, the defending champions, opened strongly, leading 26–22 after the first quarter and 47–38 at half-time. Rivers Hoopers fought back after the break to level at 63–63 by the end of the third quarter, and the sides finished regulation tied at 80–80 before the Hoopers held their nerve in overtime to complete an unbeaten Final 4 campaign.
Abel Offia was named Most Valuable Player after averaging 18 points, 6.2 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.8 steals per game, with an efficiency rating of 17.8. In the other Final 4 fixture, debutants ASO Sky Hawks defeated Gboko City Chiefs 80–75 to finish as runners-up with a 2–1 record, with Paul Dibal scoring a game-high 32 points.
