The DR Congo Léopards closed the fourth window of the 2027 Basketball World Cup qualifiers with a 77-75 victory over Egypt on Sunday at the Dakar Arena in Senegal. The win came after two heavy defeats for the Léopards, 68-100 against Angola on 27 August and 76-101 versus Mali on 29 August.
The match was decided in the final seconds. The Léopards led 60-53 after the third quarter before the Pharaons fought back to level at 75-75 in the final period. The Congolese side scored the last two points with six seconds remaining to seal the result.
With the victory, the Léopards kept their qualification hopes alive, though their situation remains difficult. The DRC sat sixth in Group F with 12 points at the end of the window, according to the APS.
The next qualifying window is scheduled for February 2027. The DR Congo players will look to use their Dakar performances as a foundation for the rest of the campaign.
