The University of Parakou lost 67-80 to the Guinean University Sports Federation in the men's basketball final at the 12th African University Games on Tuesday, 15 September in Cairo. The result gave the Beninese side the silver medal and ended a run of four straight wins at the tournament.
Parakou had gone through the group stage unbeaten. They opened with an 87-53 victory over the Higher Education Institutes, then edged the American University in Cairo 73-71 to reach the knockout rounds with a perfect record.
In the semi-finals, the team coached by Jean M'Po dominated the University of Canada 96-52 to book a place in the final against Guinea, the side they had beaten 63-49 in the group phase. The rematch went the other way in Cairo, with the Guineans overturning the earlier result to claim the continental title.
The 12th African University Games run from 8 to 16 September 2026 in Cairo, bringing together roughly 2,000 athletes across 18 disciplines.
