One hundred Kenyan teachers gathered at Fam Sports Arena in Kitengela for the Basketball Experience Disability Inclusion Teachers' Awareness Day, a joint initiative by AFD, NBA Africa and the Kenya Red Cross. The programme equipped educators with practical skills to make basketball accessible to children with disabilities.

Participants worked through the Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA curriculum, combining classroom sessions with on-court drills covering fundamentals, safe coaching practices and age-appropriate instruction. A central component focused on disability inclusion, introducing adaptive coaching techniques, accessible activities and inclusive curriculum design.

Kenya Red Cross facilitators added a life skills strand, underlining the role of sport in building teamwork, resilience, leadership, health awareness and social responsibility among young people.

The initiative forms part of the broader Basketball Experience programme, a collaboration between AFD and NBA Africa that uses sport to promote education and inclusive opportunities. Organisers say the training aims to break down barriers to participation and create environments where children of different abilities can learn and play together.
