NBA Africa has launched a fan roadshow across Nairobi built around one of Kenya's most recognisable cultural fixtures: the Nganya matatu. A specially branded NBA Nganya, decked in vibrant league-inspired artwork, will run selected routes through the capital to drum up excitement for the 2026-27 NBA season.
Fans who spot the vehicle are invited to photograph or film it, tag @NBAAfricaOfficial on social media and scan an onboard QR code to create or verify an NBA ID for a chance to win prizes. Mall activations at select Nairobi locations will feature trivia, season predictions, jersey personalisation and interactive hoops experiences tied to NBA Jersey Day on Oct. 19.
The campaign ties in with an unusual scheduling milestone: the NBA's first-ever 9:00 p.m. CAT tip-off, when the Boston Celtics visit the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday, Oct. 20 on SuperSport and NBA League Pass. Other opening-week fixtures include the defending champion New York Knicks hosting the Philadelphia 76ers and the San Antonio Spurs against the Oklahoma City Thunder at 1:00 a.m. CAT.
The week-long celebration culminates with an NBA Start of Season Watch Party in Nairobi on Oct. 20, with fans, creators and media gathering to watch the opening games.
