Mountain of Fire Ministries (MFM) and First Bank will feature in the African Women’s Basketball League Zone 3 qualifiers in Monrovia after Colonel Sam Ahmedu intervened to secure their participation. The competition will run from November 2nd to 9th at the Samuel Kanyon Doe (SKD) Gymnasium in Paynesville, Monrovia.
The two Nigerian clubs will be joined by representatives from Benin Republic and Côte d’Ivoire, alongside Liberia’s Flames Basketball Club and D’Rockers Basketball Club. Flames finished as domestic league runners-up, while D’Rockers are reigning national champions.
Only two tickets are available for FIBA Africa Zone 3, with the winners qualifying for the continental finals in Cairo, Egypt, from December 11-19. MFM arrive after edging First Bank 66-64 in the Zenith Bank Women’s Basketball League final at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium.
MFM and First Bank entered the line-up following an extension of the registration deadline and an adjustment to the competition schedule by FIBA Africa and the Liberia Basketball Association. The changes followed an intervention by FIBA Africa Zone 3 President Colonel Sam Ahmedu, whose involvement enabled both clubs to participate after their domestic league campaign had ended late.
