Kenya's women launched their FIBA 3x3 U23 World Cup campaign with a win over Slovenia in Pool D in Wuhan. The result hands head coach Eunice Ouma's side an early boost in a pool that also features the United States, Australia and Japan.
Ouma named a six-player squad drawn entirely from the domestic scene: Ninel Naserian of USIU-A Flames, Roseline Akinyi and Mashar Ooko of Zetech University Sparks, Consolata Odhiambo of Th3 Swish Basketball, and Daisy Awino and Babra Achieng of KPA Dockers.
Several members already carry prior international 3x3 experience, and the tournament represents the next step in their national team careers. The Kenya Basketball Federation said qualification had come through a strong showing in the FIBA Africa 3x3 U23 Nations League, giving the squad competitive match practice before the trip.
The federation added that participation in the World Cup marks another important milestone in the continued growth of 3x3 basketball in Kenya, with ranking points and exposure on offer to support development toward future global competitions, including the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
Kenya next face Australia later on the same day.
