Guinea took control from the opening tip and never relented, beating Cameroon 90-67 in the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup qualifiers. The Syli Basket opened with a dominant 28-13 first quarter, went into halftime leading 47-38, and pulled away after the break to win by 23 points.
Shannon Evans led Guinea's scorers with 19 points, followed by Sekou Doumbouya on 18 and Souley Boum with 16. Coach Corey Alan Frazier praised his side's togetherness after the win.
"In this match in particular, our energy was different, our mentality was different. We played together on both sides of the court," Frazier said. "The execution of the game plan was great."
Guinea closed the window with two wins and one defeat, having lost to South Sudan 71-81 before beating Cape Verde 81-61. Cameroon stayed top of Group E on 16 points, but Guinea moved to 15 points and second place, ahead of South Sudan on 14. Nigeria also strengthened their push with a 100-84 win over Cape Verde, while South Sudan beat Tunisia 79-75.
Centre Mamadi Diakite said Guinea used an online video of Cameroon as extra motivation. "I saw a video online where the team captain said we would receive the same treatment as Tunisia. We didn't like that," he said.
