Giants of Africa will open three new basketball courts in Rwanda this week through its Built Within initiative, taking the organisation’s total in the country to 14. The facilities will serve more than 9,500 young people, students and community members, while giving the organisation courts in every province of Rwanda.

The handover ceremonies began on Tuesday at the University of Rwanda’s Nyagatare campus, where the court will serve more than 600 community members, including university students and young people from surrounding areas. Events will move to GS Marie Reine Rwaza in Musanze on Wednesday. The Catholic boarding school, attended by 900 young men and women, will use the court for training, competition and activities beyond the classroom.

The series ends on Thursday at Igihozo St Peter in Nyanza. Its court is expected to serve 8,000 people from the school and neighbouring educational institutions. The facilities follow earlier Built Within openings in Rusizi District in the Western Province and Kigali.

Implemented with the Ministry of Sports, Built Within aims to build 100 courts across Africa. Giants of Africa has now built 53 courts in 16 countries as part of its efforts to expand access to basketball and support young people through sport.
