Guédiawaye Basket Academy (GBA), crowned Senegalese N1 women's champions, will not take part in the next African Champions Cup due to a lack of financial resources, according to TFM. The club had won the national title against ASC Ville de Dakar, overturning a four-point first-leg defeat (72-68) with a 62-52 victory at Stadium Marius Ndiaye.
Speaking about the continental competition, GBA president Mamadou Pathé Keita explained the financial difficulties facing the academy. "Because we do not have the resources," he told TFM. "GBA is an academy, not a club or an institution backing it. Even clubs with institutions behind them struggle. For us, I do not think it is possible. Going requires means and a budget. We do not currently have the necessary resources, but we will continue working with the same philosophy and framework, focused on training, youth and good organisation."
The Senegalese champions will therefore not represent the country on the African stage this season. The club intends to continue its project centred on youth development and training.
