Gambia defeated Senegal on penalties to win the WAFU Zone A U17 title after a goalless draw at the end of regulation time. Senegal, chasing a third consecutive crown in the zone, were left empty-handed.
The first half was tight, with Senegal's Cheikh Oumar Sy creating two chances and the defence holding firm to keep the score 0-0 at the break. Senegal continued to push after the interval, and in the 54th minute Daouda Fofana Fall, set up in a move with Cheikh Oumar Sy, saw his shot brush the Gambian post. Both coaches made several changes, with Abdou Kader Ndour and Amadou Ndiaye coming on for Senegal. In the 69th minute, Kader Ndour connected with a pass from Ndiaye but his effort was gathered by Gambian goalkeeper Yanou Gomes.
The decisive moment came in the 88th minute, when Mahamet Ba was shown a red card, leaving Senegal a man down for the closing minutes. The Lionceaux kept pressing and, in stoppage time, were awarded a penalty after Ndiaye was fouled in the Gambian box. Souleymane Commissaire Faye stepped up, but Gomes saved his attempt.
In the shoot-out, Gambia converted all five of their kicks. Senegal missed through Cheikh Thior on the first attempt, and although Moussa Ndiaye, Ibrahima Gassama and Kader Ndour scored, it was not enough. Gambia took the WAFU Zone A U17 title.
