Gaëtan Douet has added another line to his CV. The Saint-Sébastien-sur-Loire native, long serving as assistant coach to Fabrice Lefrançois at Cholet Basket, was named head coach of the Democratic Republic of Congo in July, aged 34.
The appointment places him at the helm of the Léopards during a rebuilding phase. He took charge for three games in late August as part of the 2027 World Cup qualifiers, suffering defeats against Angola (100-68) and Mali (101-76) before edging Egypt (77-75).
Douet spent two years as an assistant with the Congolese federation before stepping into the top job. He continues to work with Cholet players after collective sessions and still oversees shooting development alongside his international commitments.
The new role marks a significant shift for the French coach, who now combines daily work in the French top flight with national-team duties in Central Africa.
