Former Ivory Coast coach Faé Emerse has appealed to African football leaders to give technical staff the time and conditions needed to develop the sport on the continent. Speaking at a CAF strategic conference held in Cape Verde, the 40-year-old said African coaches have ideas but cannot deliver results overnight.
"For evolution and for African football to continue growing, African leaders have to let the staff work: they have ideas but football does not fall in one day, it takes work, it takes time. So let these coaches work and also give them the conditions to work well," Faé said, adding that African teams have nothing to envy European and South American sides provided they receive comparable backing and mentality.
Faé was not retained by the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) following the 2026 World Cup in North America.
