Equity Dumas advanced to the Kenya Basketball Federation League semifinals after closing out Umoja 75-67 in the winner-takes-all Game Three of their best-of-three quarterfinal. The Bankers, who had taken Game One 68-50 before Umoja levelled the series with a 62-58 win last weekend, recovered from a slow start at Nyayo Stadium Gymnasium. Umoja edged the opening quarter 22-20 before Equity responded with a 24-14 second-quarter run to lead 44-36 at halftime.
Umoja cut the gap after the break, winning the third quarter 12-7, but Equity held their nerve in the final period, outscoring their opponents 24-19 to seal the result. Jordan Pipkin led all scorers with 30 points, while Alex Nzuki and Dennis Koja added a combined 27. Clinton Lijondo, Agulet Malek and Dolph Otieno replied with 30 points between them for Umoja.
Equity, who finished third in the regular season on 35 points, now wait on the outcome of the Kenya Ports Authority versus Strathmore Blades quarterfinal. KPA lead that series 1-0 after a 77-61 win in Nairobi and host Game Two in Mombasa. In the other half of the draw, defending champions Nairobi City Thunder, still unbeaten, will meet Stanbic Shields, who eliminated Ulinzi Warriors.
