D’Tigresses head coach Rena Wakama has named her final 12-player squad for the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Germany. Captain Amy Okonkwo will lead a side blending experienced players with emerging talents as the African champions prepare for their third appearance at the global showpiece.
Ezinne Kalu and Promise Amukamara are the only squad members who featured at the 2018 World Cup, making the pair the first Nigerian players to appear at two FIBA Women’s World Cups. The team arrived in Berlin on Wednesday ahead of the tournament, which runs from 4 to 13 September.
Nigeria have been drawn in Group B alongside Hungary, South Korea and France. They open their campaign against South Korea at the Berlin Arena on Friday, 4 September, face Hungary at Max-Schmeling-Halle a day later, then complete the group stage against France at the Berlin Arena on Monday, 7 September.
Wakama’s side will look to build on their historic showing at the 2018 World Cup, when they became the first African team to reach the quarter-finals.
