Nigeria’s D’Tigress have received the final cash component of the presidential rewards promised to them after their historic 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket victory. The Federal Government, through the National Sports Commission, paid the naira equivalent of $100,000 to each player and $50,000 to each official, bringing the full reward package to completion.
The NSC confirmed the payments were made on September 9, 2026, and that all beneficiaries had acknowledged receipt. Kehinde Ajayi, Director of Information and Public Relations at the commission, said in a statement that the latest payment had effectively redeemed all aspects of the presidential reward.
Beyond the cash, the package included three-bedroom apartments in Abuja and national honours of the Order of the Niger. The NSC said beneficiaries had received title documents, including Certificates of Occupancy, for the apartments and their national honours certificates in February 2026, all signed by President Bola Tinubu.
D’Tigress, who extended their dominance of African women’s basketball by winning a record fifth consecutive AfroBasket title in 2025, confirmed the payment through their official X account with a brief message: “Presidential reward acknowledged.”
The government has also begun fulfilling a similar reward promise to the Super Falcons following their 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations triumph, with cash payments expected before their next official engagements.
