Nigeria’s D’Tigress suffered a second consecutive defeat at the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup, going down 71-67 to Hungary in a Group B clash in Berlin on Saturday. The African champions arrived at the match looking to recover from a 99-81 loss to South Korea in their opener, but stayed within reach of Hungary without ever converting their work into a result.
Hungary proved more efficient inside the arc, hitting 24 of 41 two-point attempts compared with Nigeria’s 17 from 44. D’Tigress also struggled from long range, making seven of 25 three-pointers and 12 of 23 free throws. Hungary converted four of 14 from beyond the arc and held their composure in the decisive stages.
The four-point defeat leaves Nigeria still searching for a first win in Group B after two matches, putting their chances of advancing to the knockout phase in serious danger. France await D’Tigress next on Monday in one of the toughest tests of the group stage.
To keep their World Cup hopes alive, the Nigerian side will need to recover quickly, sharpen their shooting and produce a far stronger performance against one of the strongest teams in the tournament.
