Kinshasa provincial champions BC CNSS are preparing for the Coupe du Congo, scheduled 17 to 30 September, by recruiting an overseas player to steady their squad. Coach Raven Mwimba said the club needed a guard after losing Divine Pembe, who left to play in Gabon before the play-offs.
“The state of health of the team is good. We played the Liprobakin final with three wings helping on the flanks and we need a guard to plug the gap, so we are bringing in outside reinforcement,” Mwimba said. “You already know that CNSS lost the athlete Divine Pembe before the play-offs, who went to play in Gabon, and now we have to take an outside athlete to fill the breach.”
That reinforcement is Adidjata Traoré, an Ivorian forward described by the club as one of the most dominant players in the FIBA Africa zone. Traoré arrives fresh from an outstanding season with NCA in Côte d’Ivoire, where she collected a string of MVP awards and posted performances including a 31-point, 11-rebound, 4-assist outing. “Les Amazones” of CNSS, backed by their recently conquered Liprobakin crown, will target the national title on home soil in Kinshasa.
