Gabonese club Charbo Squad opened their WBLA qualifying campaign with a 16-point defeat to an effective Cameroonian side, FAP, in Brazzaville. The Gabonese champions and national cup winners hoped for a positive start but could not impose their game on their opponents.
The loss leaves Charbo Squad needing a rapid response in the six-club Zone 4 qualifying tournament, held from 24 to 28 October. Only two teams will progress to the WBLA finals, with Inter Club of Brazzaville their next opponents on Sunday 25 October at 12 h 30 local time at the Henri-Elendé Gymnasium.
Charbo Squad then face BC CNSS of the Democratic Republic of the Congo on Monday 26 October at 10 am local time. A victory against Inter Club would give the Gabonese side a chance to revive their qualification campaign before their third match.
The top two teams from Zone 4 will qualify for the 2026 WBLA finals in Cairo, Egypt, from 11 to 20 December. The defeat has sharply reduced Charbo Squad’s margin for error in a short competition.
