The Japoma gymnasium in Douala is set to host the AfroCan 2027 Zone 4 qualifying tournament from October 10 to 13, with Cameroon, Congo and Gabon competing for a single direct ticket to the final round in Rwanda. The four-day event will determine which of the three sub-regional selections advances to the continental phase, leaving no margin for error in any of the matches.
Cameroon coach François Enyegue trimmed his preliminary squad from 24 players down to 12 after a preparation focused on tactical cohesion and physical impact, two areas the coaching staff wants the team to stand out in during the qualifiers. Among the experienced names in the squad are forward Cédric Melingui of FAP de Yaoundé and guard Ludovic Mienne of Alph de Yaoundé.
The AfroCan is a FIBA Africa men's basketball competition held every four years, reserved for players competing in club championships across the continent, with limited exceptions. With only the group winner booking a place at AfroCan 2027 in Rwanda, Cameroon will need to finish top of the Zone 4 standings to continue their campaign.
