The Algerian Football Federation has appointed Brahim Hemdani as the new head coach of the national team, replacing Vladimir Petkovic following his departure after the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Former Algerian international Hemdani will be supported by Antar Yahia, who takes on the assistant coach role.
The appointment comes ahead of Algeria's 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign. The Fennecs have been drawn in Group I alongside Zambia, Togo and Burundi, and will begin their bid at home in what will be Hemdani's first test in charge.
Hemdani steps into the top job after managing Algeria's Under-21s, a position he took up two months ago. He will now leave that role to lead the senior team's preparations for the upcoming qualifiers.
