Benin's men's basketball team swept into the final of the 12th African University Games in Cairo with a commanding 96–52 victory over University of Canada in the semi-finals on Monday. Coach Jean M'Po's side, unbeaten through the group stage, delivered a dominant performance from the opening tip and never allowed their Canadian opponents back into the contest.
The tone was set in the first quarter, which Benin won 33–18, and they pushed the lead to 54–37 by half-time. The third quarter extended the gap further as a well-organised Benin unit exposed its opponent's weaknesses, opening up a 78–46 advantage heading into the final period. The fourth quarter followed the same pattern, with the Young Benin side maintaining their intensity until the final buzzer.
The semi-final victory gave Benin a fourth win in as many matches at the tournament. They earlier beat Higher Education Institutes 87–53, edged The American University in Cairo 73–71 and defeated the Guinean University Sports Federation 63–49 in the group stage.
The final takes place on Tuesday 15 September 2026 at the American University in Cairo at 16h local time (14h in Benin), against the Guinean University Sports Federation, who qualified from the other side of the bracket.
