Six clubs will contest the FIBA Africa Zone 3 qualifiers for the African Women's Basketball League at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Indoor Gymnasium in Paynesville, Monrovia, from November 2 to 9, with the top two advancing to the continental finals in Cairo from December 11 to 19. Nigeria's Mountain of Fire Ministries and First Bank headline the field after their participation was secured through an extension of the registration deadline by FIBA Africa and the Liberia Basketball Association.
The Nigerian clubs renew their rivalry on continental ground after MFM edged First Bank 66–64 in the Zenith Bank Women's Basketball League final. They will face Liberia's Flames and D'Rockers, Côte d'Ivoire's Friends of Basketball Association, the defending Zone 3 champions, and Benin's Energie Basketball Club of Cotonou.
FIBA Africa Zone 3 President Colonel Sam Ahmedu (Rtd) brokered the changes that allowed the Nigerian sides to enter following the late conclusion of their domestic season. Calvin Diggs, president of Flames and Secretary-General of the LBA, said organisers were working to deliver a competition meeting international standards, while Zone 3 Secretary Joe Apu expressed confidence in Liberia's hosting capacity built through recent international events.
