Nigeria point guard Promise Amukamara has dismissed suggestions she is about to retire from international basketball, stating she will continue representing the country for as long as she remains capable of contributing.
The experienced playmaker, one of the longest-serving members of the squad, said wearing Nigeria’s colours remains a privilege after many years with D’Tigress. Reflecting on the team’s recent FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup campaign in Berlin, Amukamara described her longevity with the national team as an achievement rather than a sign that her career is nearing its end.
She remains prepared to contribute whenever invited and believes her experience can benefit younger players coming into the set-up. Amukamara has been part of an important period for Nigerian women’s basketball, helping D’Tigress establish themselves among Africa’s leading sides and compete on the international stage.
As long as she stays fit and capable of performing at the required level, Amukamara intends to keep answering Nigeria’s call.
