Organisers of the Ajayi Elebire Elite Basketball Camp are aiming to secure more scholarship opportunities for young players as the annual development programme prepares for its fifth edition in Nigeria later this month. The camp, founded by former international basketball player Olalekan Ajayi, will screen players in Lagos on 19 October before moving to Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, the following day.
Ajayi said foreign coaches would join the selection process in Lagos and other nearby states, then travel with the chosen players to Ado-Ekiti. The training programme runs from 21 to 23 October and concludes with an All-Stars game, with participants scheduled to depart on 24 October.
The organisers are looking to build on the previous edition, which awarded scholarships to 10 players. "Last edition, we gave out scholarships to 10 players, and we are waiting for the coaches to arrive and see how many will be making it this time around," Ajayi said.
He expressed confidence in the upcoming edition and the impact of the visiting coaches. "I can bet you that we are going to be having a bigger and better camping this time around," he said. The camp, established in honour of Ajayi's late father Babatunde Elebire Ajayi, returns to Ado-Ekiti for the second consecutive year.
