The race to qualify for the 2027 AfroBasket Women tournament has been mapped out, with seven places available across Africa's seven zones between September 2026 and May 2027. Hosts for the qualifying windows will be announced later, with each zone sending one team through to the main tournament.
Nigeria, Mali, South Sudan, Senegal and Cameroon are already qualified as the top five finishers from the 2025 edition. Tunisia leads Zone 1 with 13 previous final-phase appearances, while the last Zone 1 qualifiers were held in 2015, when Algeria came through a home-and-away tie with Morocco.
Zone 3 looks likely to be led by Côte d'Ivoire, the 2025 host nation, alongside Benin, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Liberia, Niger and Togo. FIBA Africa has previously combined eligible teams from Zones 2 and 3 into a single qualifying series. In Zone 2, Guinea, fresh off a 12th-place finish in 2025, is expected to front the chase with Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mauritania, Sierra Leone and the Gambia.
Zone 5 stands out as the busiest sub-region, regularly staging five-team championship-style tournaments. With South Sudan already qualified, Uganda, Egypt, Rwanda, Kenya and Burundi are set to battle for the available slot, with Tanzania, Ethiopia, Somalia and potentially debutants Eritrea also involved. Zone 6 pits Angola and Mozambique, the dominant forces in a 10-nation group, against each other, with Zimbabwe, Zambia and South Africa expected to feature. Zone 7's Indian Ocean nations, led by Madagascar, are still waiting to organise their first on-court tournament.
