The qualifiers for the 2027 AfroBasket Women will begin in September 2026 and run through May 2027 across the seven FIBA Africa zones, with seven berths available for the finals, the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) announced on its website. Nigeria, Mali, South Sudan, Senegal and Cameroon, the top five teams from the previous edition, have already secured direct qualification for the main tournament.
All remaining national teams will compete within their respective zones for the seven remaining places. Zone 1 features Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia, the latter having reached the finals 13 times. Zone 2 is expected to include Guinea, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mauritania, Sierra Leone and The Gambia, with Mali and Senegal already through. Côte d'Ivoire headlines Zone 3 alongside Benin, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Liberia, Niger and Togo, with Zones 2 and 3 able to be combined into a single competition.
Zone 4 could bring together DR Congo, Central African Republic, Gabon, Chad, Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea and São Tomé and Príncipe, while Cameroon is already qualified. Zone 5 is set to include Uganda, Egypt, Rwanda, Kenya and Burundi, with Tanzania, Ethiopia and Somalia also likely entrants. Zone 6 will feature Angola and Mozambique, alongside Zimbabwe, Zambia and South Africa. Zone 7 lists Madagascar, Seychelles, Mauritius, Comoros and Djibouti.
Senegal holds the record for finals appearances with 26, while Angola leads in qualifications earned through qualifiers with 14, ahead of Mozambique on 13. South Sudan has progressed in each of the last three qualifying cycles, earning a wild card for AfroBasket Women 2025 and winning a bronze medal on its debut at the finals.
