FIBA has announced that the 2027 AfroBasket Women will be held from 23 July to 1 August 2027. The host country has not yet been designated, leaving one of the key questions about the next continental championship unresolved.
The tournament will span ten days, once again bringing together Africa's top national teams. Holders of the title are Nigeria, who claimed the 2025 crown by beating Mali in the final held in Côte d'Ivoire. The two finalists are currently representing Africa at the Women's World Cup, underlining their standing at the summit of continental basketball.
Senegal's Lionnes will be looking to improve on their 2025 campaign, when they finished fourth after losing to South Sudan in the third-place game. Côte d'Ivoire hosted the previous edition of the women's championship.
Attention now turns to FIBA's decision on the host nation, with Africa's women's basketball calendar taking shape ahead of the 2027 gathering.
