Ambassador Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi (DAM) is presenting his candidacy for the presidency of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) ahead of the October 15, 2026 elective congress. His platform draws on more than two decades of involvement in basketball, including the NBBF Premier League, Division One, NUGA competitions, the U-18 national team and Trafford Basketball Club in Manchester.

As Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, Abdullahi points to his executive leadership in pitching his bid. Through the DAM Foundation he has funded a basketball court in Kano, grassroots competitions and the annual DAM Foundation Basketball Championship in Okene, Kogi State, and runs an academy serving over 500 children.

His proposed 100-day action plan includes a federation audit, a stakeholders' summit, a unified competition calendar and a digital registration and statistics platform. He is advocating professionally managed leagues, sustainable sponsorship, stronger player welfare, modern facilities, transparent governance and structured talent development, covering D'Tigers, D'Tigress, women's basketball, coaches, referees, clubs and state associations.

Abdullahi also serves as Director of Youth of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors and Secretary of the Sports Mobilisation Committee of the APC Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 presidential election.
