Jonathan Kuminga will begin the 2026-27 NBA season as Minnesota's starting power forward, according to his agent Aaron Turner. Turner told Run It Back that the Timberwolves pitched a defined role to the Congolese forward before completing the move.
Turner named the projected unit: "Yeah, this was a clear-cut… you're coming in here to start at the four, with Melo, Ant, Jaden, JK, Rudy." He added that head coach Chris Finch personally explained the role to Kuminga and outlined how Minnesota intends to play.
The 23-year-old enters his sixth NBA campaign with certainty about his place in the rotation. At the Golden State Warriors under Steve Kerr and later with the Atlanta Hawks, his starting status was frequently uncertain. Turner said Kuminga had never previously entered a season knowing he would be in the first five.
Minnesota's roster also includes Ayo Dosunmu, Terrence Shannon Jr. and Donte DiVincenzo when he returns. Turner acknowledged questions remain about how Kuminga will mesh alongside Ball and Edwards, but described the role offered to his client as unusually straightforward.
