The Minnesota Timberwolves have officially signed forward Jonathan Kuminga, the club announced on Friday. The 23-year-old joins on a two-year, $13 million deal with a player option, according to his agent Aaron Turner and ESPN's Shams Charania. Kuminga will wear number 24 for the Timberwolves.
Kuminga arrives in Minnesota after a lengthy process that required the Timberwolves to clear roster and salary-cap space through a trade before finalising the agreement. Late on Thursday night, the deal was confirmed in the NBA transaction log, with the club confirming the signing the following morning. The former Warriors champion wrapped up his fifth NBA season split between the Atlanta Hawks and Golden State Warriors after being traded to Atlanta on 5 February.
He is expected to feature as a starter alongside Anthony Edwards, LaMelo Ball, Jaden McDaniels and Rudy Gobert, and is projected to be a major third or fourth scoring option. There is no reported significance behind his choice of number 24, though he turns 24 next month. The move gives Kuminga a fresh opportunity as he looks to earn a more substantial contract in the future, while Minnesota continue their pursuit of a championship.
