The Sacramento Kings are positioned as a potential suitor for Jonathan Kuminga if the Minnesota Timberwolves forward reaches unrestricted free agency next offseason. According to Blecher Report's Jake Fischer, "the Sacramento Kings is a team Jonathan Kuminga believes will give him a significant payday if he were to reach unrestricted free agency next season."
Kuminga, the former No. 7 overall pick, signed a two-year, $12.4 million deal with Minnesota this offseason after seeking a larger contract in free agency. The deal includes a player option for next season, suggesting he is treating the campaign as a prove-it year.
Traded by the Golden State Warriors to the Atlanta Hawks before last season's trade deadline, Kuminga averaged 12.2 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists across 16 regular-season appearances. He scored double digits in five of Atlanta's six playoff games against the eventual champion New York Knicks, registering 21 and 19 points in the Hawks' two victories.
Kings general manager Scott Perry said in the offseason that Sacramento "wanna continue adding people that are tough, athletic, and that are gonna fit into the style we wanna play," a profile that fits Kuminga's athletic profile alongside the backcourt of Darius Acuff Jr. and Zach LaVine.
