Forces armées et Police (FAP) will represent Cameroon at the upcoming Road to the Basketball Africa League (BAL) 2027, replacing national champions BEAC who forfeited because they lack the financial resources to compete. BEAC were also unable to participate last year, leaving Cameroon unrepresented in the BAL preliminaries.
Participating in the BAL requires substantial funding to recruit top local players and bring in international reinforcement, according to Cameroon-Tribune. Finishing second in the national championship, club Alph also cannot afford the trip, clearing the way for FAP, who ended third in the league and won the Cameroon Cup.
It will be the second time FAP take part in BAL qualifiers without holding the national champion title, after 2019 at the launch of the competition. Drawn in Group C, FAP will face Central African champions Avenir du Rail of Congo, Espoir of Gabon and Onatra of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
According to the FIBA schedule, the first stage is set to be played between 1 September and 30 November 2026. The top two teams in the group will advance to the Elite 16 round.
