The Basketball Africa League has announced the unveiling of six newly refurbished basketball courts in Côte d'Ivoire, Nigeria and Senegal. The project supports NBA Africa's commitment to build or renovate 1,000 courts across the continent over the next decade, with the facilities expected to reach thousands of youth and community members annually.

The first two courts were unveiled in Saint-Louis, Senegal, in collaboration with Senegalese national oil and gas company Société des Pétroles du Sénégal (PETROSEN). A third was launched in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, in partnership with Wave Côte d'Ivoire. Additional courts are scheduled to be unveiled through December 2026 in Dakar, Joal and Guédiawaye in Senegal, and in Owerri, Nigeria.

The Saint-Louis unveiling took place at Université Gaston Berger, one of Senegal's leading academic institutions. The indoor court sits within a UNESCO World Heritage site and will provide students and the surrounding community with space for basketball and community programming.

In Abidjan's Koumassi district, the renovated court at Groupe Scolaire Lac is expected to serve nearly 3,000 players every week, including 2,500 students. The site will host a basketball development programme for 300 girls aged 18 and under from eight schools, as well as the Ligue Jeune youth competition every Saturday. The Abidjan project marks the second BAL court unveiled through the collaboration with Wave Côte d'Ivoire, following the first in November 2025.

"These newly refurbished courts reflect our commitment to investing in communities and making the game more accessible to young people across Africa," said BAL President Amadou Gallo Fall. Each court features upgraded playing surfaces, spectator seating and new stanchions, with select sites including modernised changing rooms, sanitation facilities and lighting.
