Amina Seck, a former Kentucky State University basketball player, was released on Wednesday after two months in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody. The 26-year-old centre from Dakar, Senegal, had been detained at Muhammad Ali International Airport in Louisville on Aug. 7 while travelling to a basketball tournament in New York.

"I just want to thank God for everything for this journey," Seck said in a Facebook post. "I want to thank everybody who helped me and prayed for me, supported me for this case. And I know it was tough, but you know what they say, God is good all the time. So God is good."

Seck entered the United States legally in 2019. The Department of Homeland Security said she missed an immigration hearing and a final deportation order was issued for September 2025, but Seck said she did not receive notification. Attorney Sadiqa Reynolds said Seck was released from the Grayson County Detention Center in Leitchfield after a $2,500 bond was posted.

While in custody, Seck was held in four detention centres. Reynolds said Seck suffered a seizure at Grayson County, was taken to hospital, and did not receive consistent medical care for a torn ACL and meniscus, missing a pre-op appointment and surgery.

Seck played two seasons at Kentucky State, averaging 11.7 points and 7.3 rebounds last year for the Thorobreds. She recorded five double-doubles and was named to the SIAC all-conference third team. Her immigration proceedings remain ongoing.
