Nigerian-born winger Abdul Abdulmalik made an immediate impact on his debut for Djurgårdens IF after coming off the bench in their 7-1 Svenska Cupen win over fourth-tier side Haninge on Thursday night. The 23-year-old attacker showed pace, sharp passing and strong teamwork during his cameo.
The performance drew praise from Djurgården supporters online. One fan posted: "Mad how no British team took a punt on him because from the clips flying around he looks class," while another wrote: "No wonder they pushed for him, looks a cracking player." A third added: "Such a sharp footballer. Just looks a different level." Abdulmalik joined Djurgården on a three-year contract from Boreham Wood for £1.5m last month, a fee that surpassed the £1m transfer of Jamie Vardy from Fleetwood Town to Leicester City in 2012 and set a new National League record. Boreham Wood included a sell-on clause, while add-ons could increase the total.
The England youth international progressed through Millwall's academy up to under-21 level before moving to Boreham Wood.
