Urunani are within sight of a place in the Road to BAL 2027 Elite 16 after beating Ushindzi de Ouani 117-58 in Hoima, taking their Group D record to 3-0. The Burundian champions have now reached triple figures in three consecutive quarters of the East Division contest.
Coach Elvis Hakizimana gave his bench substantial playing time as Urunani dominated Ushindzi at Hoima City Arena. Malik Genzahayo, Bamba Diallo and Yves Nsengiyumva led the bench unit, with Diallo and Nsengiyumva combining to shoot 9-of-16 from three-point range. Most of their attempts were uncontested after Ushindzi collapsed into the lane.
Bamba scored a team-high 27 points, while Nsengiyumva added 15. Urunani’s 117 points are the highest by any side in the 2027 Road to BAL, and the victory took the tournament’s highest-scoring team to the verge of qualification for the Elite 16.
Ushindzi have conceded 100 points in both of their games, also giving up 109 to the Namuwongo Blazers on the opening day. The winless side face winless COSPN on Saturday in search of their first tournament victory.
