Tripoli’s Grand Sports Hall is set to host the Western Division preliminary qualifiers for the Basketball Africa League, featuring Libya’s Al-Ittihad and seven other African clubs. The three-day tournament will begin on October 21.
The draw has split the eight teams into two groups. Al-Ittihad have been placed in Group A alongside Mali’s Stade Malien, Algeria’s Staoueli and Cape Verde’s Kriol Star, with the four clubs competing for two places in the next round.
Group B features Liberia’s Pythons, Ghana’s Spintex, Benin’s Energie and Guinea’s Naby Souyah, with all four sides seeking to advance in the continental competition.
Under the qualification format, the top two teams from each group will progress to the Elite 16 stage, scheduled to begin on November 9 in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. The tournament carries particular weight for Al-Ittihad, who will look to use home-court advantage in front of their supporters as they chase a place in the decisive stage.
