Spintex Knights are stranded in Libya and unable to return to Ghana because of an outstanding $33,000 debt, the Basketball Africa League representatives confirmed.
The Accra Basketball League champions qualified for the BAL Elite 16 by winning all three games in Group B of the Division West preliminary stage, securing a knockout berth for the second consecutive year.
Co-founder Dr. Eric Opoku-Antwi said the club needs GH¢350,000, approximately $30,234.57, to pay for flight tickets, plus $3,000 for visa-on-arrival charges. He added that Spintex Knights have faced serious financial challenges during their three years in the African League.
The team are scheduled to play in the Elite 16 stage in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, from November 10 to 15, 2026. The club has appealed for financial support through ascent.spintexknights.com to clear the debt.
