Spintex Knights are stranded in Libya and unable to return to Ghana because of an outstanding debt of about $33,000 covering flight tickets and visa-on-arrival charges.
The Accra Basketball League champions reached the BAL Elite 16 after winning all three games in Group B of the Division West preliminary stage in Tripoli. They beat Nabaya Sofas of Guinea 96–90, NPA Pythons of Liberia 88–66 and Energie BC of Benin 92–71.
Club co-founder Dr. Eric Opoku-Antwi said the club needs GH¢350,000 for flight tickets and a further $3,000 for visa-on-arrival charges. The Knights are appealing for support to clear the debt and bring the team home.
Ghana Basketball Federation president Alex Kukula called the situation “sad” and said the federation also struggles to fund programmes, including team travel. The club is awaiting a response from the Ministry of Sports and Recreation and has asked the public for donations through ascent.spintexknights.com.
Spintex Knights are due to play in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, from 10–15 November 2026. The top two teams will qualify for the 2027 BAL season, but the club must first resolve its travel debt and prepare for the next phase.
