Spintex Knights swingman James Amotoe has attributed the team's unbeaten run in the Basketball Africa League (BAL) preliminary phase to lessons learned from previous losses. The Ghanaian side qualified for the Elite 16 after winning all three games to top Group B in the Division West phase.
The Knights beat Benin's Energie Basketball Club 92-71 and Liberia's NPA Pythons 88-66 as part of their perfect run. Amotoe averaged 17.3 points and 11 assists across the three games and finished as the tournament's leading assist provider in the group phase.
“Our goal coming to Tripoli was to make it to the Elite 16, no matter the obstacles. We needed to win all games. This was our mindset,” Amotoe said to FIBA. “We learned from our losses.”
The Knights qualified to the Elite 16 stage last year but missed out on progressing beyond the round. This year's Elite 16 competition runs from 10 to 15 November in Côte d'Ivoire.
