South Sudanese side Patriots Basketball Club have strengthened their squad with experienced centre Ater Majok ahead of the 2026 Road to the Basketball Africa League qualifiers at Hoima City Arena.

Majok brings international experience after playing professionally across several continents. He was part of US Monastir’s championship-winning campaign in the 2022 BAL season and is expected to strengthen Patriots’ interior play, rebounding and rim protection.

Patriots begin their tournament against Burundi’s Urunani on Thursday. The South Sudanese team is targeting progression to the Elite 16, which is scheduled to take place in Nairobi, Kenya, in November.

The Hoima qualifiers also include hosts Namuwongo Blazers of Uganda, COSPN of Madagascar and Ushindzi Basket of Comoros. Five teams are competing for two places in the next round, with Patriots facing Urunani on the opening day.
