The Fédération de Basket-ball du Congo (FEBACO) wrapped up an Extraordinary General Assembly on Monday 28 September at its Kinshasa headquarters, a day after the Congo Cup concluded. The fate of BC New Generation dominated discussions.
Secretary General André Komichelo told Actualite.cd that the matter is settled under FEBACO rules. "Le cas de New Gen est réglé par la loi ou le règlement. Sur ce cas, je renvoie tout le monde à lire et comprendre la sentence réservée à cette équipe," he said.
The dispute centres on unpaid fees linked to the first window of the Road to BAL, the Basketball Africa League qualifying series held in Kinshasa last year. The federation demanded that Liprobakin, the Kinshasa provincial league, suspend New Generation's matches. Club officials, who say they paid 12,000 USD, have questioned the transparency of the organisation's billing.
Forced to sit out competition, New Generation earned zero points on the floor and dropped out of the top Kinshasa division. The club remains liable for the sums owed before it can rebuild its squad in the lower tier.
